Willem van Schaik? Simply one of those millions with their own domain and web site.
However, I started this site way back in 1995, the Middle Ages of Internet time.
Originating from Amsterdam and after a couple of years in Singapore, I'm now living in Calgary, close to the Canadian Rockies. Working for Sun Microsystems and spending the weekends exploring the outdoors. After lots of industrial automation, my current field consists of eCommerce, Identity Management, Portals and other Internet technologies. And in the nightly hours I keep working on computer graphics and GPS. |

Some people peak in the morning, but my internal clock
dictates that the best results come after 10 pm. What follows here
are the results of those night-shifts.
After 10 years of loyalty to the BBC micro, I switched in 1992 to a NeXTstation color, which I intend to use for 10 years as well. Garp, a program originating on the BBC, is an example of how computers do support other hobbies, like in this case cartography. Last years I worked a lot on PNG, the new graphics format, which is lossless, very compact and supports alpha and gamma. Pnmtopng, written by Alex Lehmann and me, converts png-images to and from the versatile PbmPlus formats. The most popular part of my site is PngSuite, a set of test-images for png developers. Finally, the PingPong you will find here, is not a Chinese virus, but a NeXTstep PNG-viewer. |

In 1998 Fiona and I completed a four
month long-distance biking journey from Europe's
North Cape all the way down to Gibraltar. In total a distance of 7200 km.
In general, we love the outdoors. And we were able to explore the National Parks in many parts of the world. Travel with us to those spots, ranging from New Zealand or Sumatra to the Negev Desert. Now that we are living in one of the best parts of the world for trekking and hiking, you can expect here both sunny and snowy pictures of the Canadian West. |
